Reimbursement Methodologies introduces students to the main reimbursement methodologies used in today's health care industry, including diagnosis-related groups (DRGs). Students will study the mapping of the Medicare physician fee schedule to relative value units (RVUs) to better understand the rationalization and formula for the Medicare fee schedule. They will analyze reporting tools (such as claim forms) to identify data sets relevant to the reimbursement process. Inpatient Procedural Coding exposes students to the process of coding for procedures performed in the hospital inpatient setting. In this course, students explore the organization and use of ICD-10-PCS, including dissecting and constructing codes that relate to each section of ICD-10-PCS. Diagnostic Coding: ICD-10-CM explores diagnostic coding according to guidelines and conventions. Students will learn the protocol specific to diagnostically coding illness, injury, and medical services for patients receiving healthcare services in hospitals and physician practices. The students delve into the standard of medical necessity in detail. Upon completion of this course, graduates will be eligible to sit for the Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) certification exam.
